CFD analysis for mixing performance of different types of household biodigesters

Abstract Household biodigesters are self-mixing anaerobic digesters used mostly in rural areas of developing countries as a reliable source clean cooking energy. For an efficient digestion process, the mixing slurry inside digester is regarded one most important parameters. In this study, three different designs household digesters, namely fixed-dome (GGC 2047 model), plug-flow and prefabricated plastic digester, investigated compared using computational fluid dynamics. A 3D transient simulation performed multiphase volume (VOF) model Ansys® Fluent release 16.0. The rheological properties feedstock considered identical for all digesters. designed to be 1 m3 while GGC was 6 standard size digester. regions where velocity <0.02 m/s dead zones obtained results were analysed patterns dead-zone formation. It found that has relatively higher percentage (74.6%) lowest (54%) among study. study will serve basis designers researchers improve design better performances.
